Hi the answer is no, all uk domain transfer has to go through Nominet, when you do a registrant transfer from your own provider i.e. Godaddy, 1and1, etc. You will only have control of the domain and not ownership. Anyway if you try that with a UK domain provider, the transfer will not go through as you're not the owner.
So Remember! Nominet Transfer First Always!

Clear your internet cookies and give it 48 hours 123-reg can take a while.

If you followed my instruction. you should have no problem, try clearing everything and follow the steps again.

Also are you using 123-reg? because different registrar are all slightly different.

You can double check by clicking on the link, and see if the directed page is to Godaddy.com, if it's to Godadidy.com or anything else, it's a scam.

Thanks for the heads-up. I try to never click a link thru an email anymore for this very reason. I am guessing that the person at godaddy did not quite understand the issue, since they have been sending many of these same messages to me as well.
